Kampung Baru can be considered a living heritage in Kuala Lumpur although its character has been somewhat diluted over the years. Located next to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kampung Baru remains very much a kampung (village) due to historical reasons. Kampung Bharu was founded in 1899 and is the oldest residential area in Kuala Lumpur. Through much of KL has been modernized, Kampung Baru still maintains a strong sense of history, as seen through the many traditional Malay wooden houses.
